SILENCE IS GOLDEN
One of the biggest gold nuggets found in modern times is going up for sale. Coming in around 6.07 pounds, this Butte Nugget is expected to go for $350,000! Although the nugget’s finder asked the dealer to keep his name and the location of the discovery a secret, we know that it was found on public land in the Butte County Mountains back in July.
Many gold hunters found nuggets in California’s 19th Century Gold Rush, including a 54-pound nugget! The finder of this gold nugget said he used a metal detector and told colleagues that he thought he came across a pipe. He decided to dig it up because he was worried that the reading on the metal detector would mask any signal from surrounding gold nuggets. So, this is now the biggest gold nugget that has been found in decades!
THE LONGEST YARD
On Sunday night, Peyton Manning passed Brett Favre for the league record for career touchdown passes with his 509th career-scoring pass! Since becoming a professional in 1998 he has thrown 510 touchdowns to date. He is now the NFL’s all-time leader in that category and giving the league plenty of reason to name Manning the AFC’s offensive player of the week. It’s the 27th time Manning has been honored, which makes him the all-time leader in that category as well. Do you think anyone can catch him?
The 88-year-old royal matriarch has sent her first tweet. After visiting the exhibit at London’s Science Museum, she said, “It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. – Elizabeth R.”
She was at the museum in order to celebrate and open the exhibit on information technology. She didn’t seem to love the tweeting, so while it was the first time, it may end up being the last time that the Queen tweets. The US ambassador to London, Matthew Barzun, said she told him she finds it “strange” that people accost her on royal visits with their phones ready, wanting to take selfies with her. So, essentially, we think she misses face-to-face interactions. But our question is, how many people tweeted about the Queen’s tweet? #MetaTweet
EBOLA IN NYC
Doctor, Craig Spencer, recently returned from Guinea where he was treating Ebola patients. He is now the first person in New York City to test positive for the virus, setting off a search for anyone who may have come in contact with him. Dr. Spencer had traveled on the A and L subway lines as well as visiting a bowling alley in Williamsburg. He then took a taxi back to Manhattan. Authorities claimed that those who were on the subways as well as in the bowling alley should be safe from harm. But, they have quarantined his fiancée as well as two other friends who had closer contact with him leading up to Thursday.
Per protocol, Dr. Spencer had been monitoring his temperature twice a day since he returned from Guinea. He claimed to have been feeling sluggish Tuesday but only developed a fever on Thursday, which was when he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center. Officials said they have been expected isolated cases of the disease to arrive in the City and had been preparing. Now we can only hope that the world-class health department in the States can continue to have efficient and effective response teams in order to keep the disease as isolated as possible.

Harry Potter fans are in for a treat this Halloween as J.K Rowling is releasing a short back-story on one of the most malicious professors in the series, Dolores Umbridge! This new story will be the third Rowling has released on the site Pottermore.com. The other shorts were about Harry as a 33-year-old and another about a singing sorceress, Celistina Warbeck.
Currently, the Potter author is working on a new novel and a screenplay for a Harry Potter spin off called, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” It is expected to be released on November 18, 2016. Stay tuned!
