Social Buzz Pros: Favorites from this Week 10/27 | Social Buzz Pros
Happy Halloween Buzzers! We thought you might be interested in what was trending this week. Below are our top five stories for October 27th through October 31st! Which one is your favorite?
Imitation is the Highest Form of Flattery
It’s the week of videos. I’m sure you all have seen the Lincoln Car commercials featuring Matthew McConaughey. Well, Jim Carey was a guest on Saturday Night Live and he recreated the commercial, and it is hilarious. Watch ithere.
On a more lyrical note, as many of you probably know, Taylor Swift released her album 1989 this week. One of the hit songs on the album, “Shake It Off,” has been topping charts since it’s release. Many have covered the song, even American Idol, Kelly Clarkson. Her soulful version strips down Swift’s dance anthem, only bursting into the full on pop mode for the chorus. Swift tweeted at Clarkson and said she “slayed” the song. To watch Clarkson cover the song at a Buffalo Concert, clickhere.
Here’s one last musical note for this week, and it involves Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe. Radcliffe was on The Tonight Show to promote his new film, “Horns,” when he showed off another talent: rapping. He admitted to having an “obsession with memorizing complicated, lyrically intricate, and fast [rap] songs” and his rendition of Blackalicious’s “Alphabet Aerobics” is flawless. Maybe he is a wizard after all. If you don’t believe me, watch the video here.
Hey There, Beautiful
Catcalling is known as a whistle or a comment of a sexual nature made by a man to a passing woman. Many of us have probably had this happen to us while walking around city streets, and this woman, Shoshana B. Roberts, paired up with Rob Bliss and Hollaback, to create a video that sheds light on a pervasive issue that is affecting females around the world.
Bliss attached a GoPro camera to his back with a chest strap and he wore a yellow backpack, sunglasses, and earbuds to look unassuming while walking five to ten feet ahead of Roberts, who held two microphones in her hands. The actress worse simple clothes for the shoot: jeans and a black crew neck T-shirt.
Ten hours of walking around all areas of New York City and 100 catcalls later, they created this viral video that sends a very powerful message. Responses ranged from catcalls – “beautiful,” “sexy,” “God bless you” – to angry remarks and even stalking for upwards of five minutes. What are your thoughts on catcalling? The Other Side: Honda Ad Experience
Since I studied Marketing in college, I became fascinated with the creation of ads; the creativity, finding ways to be different, and to tell an amazing story. And being an avid TV watcher, it takes a lot for me to tune into commercials these days, but the Honda Ad experience on YouTube blew me away.
The interactive video “The Other Side,” starring a Honda Civic and the Civic Type R, allows you to switch between two different commercials by simply pressing the “R” key on your keyboard. In one side, a dad is picking up his children from school. And on the other side, he assists a pair of thieves as they execute a heist. You have to watch and interact with it to truly understand the brilliance of the experience. Personally, I watched it three times, once for each side and then together with the "R" key. Enjoy it here!
Microsoft has taken a stab at the health market with their new fitness band. The Microsoft Band is $199, which is pricier than competing fitness brands from companies like Fitbit and Jawbone. But the Band is packed with 10 different sensors tracking things like GPS, acceleration, temperature, ultraviolet light exposure, heart rate, and stress. It is able to tell users such things as how much deep sleep they’re getting, whether they’re burning calories from fat or carbs, where they lagged during a workout, and how long it takes to recover from a particular type of exercise. Watch the Band video here.
